Soča Investing

ABOUT ME

Where does name Soča Investing come from? Well, it comes from the place where I live – one of the most beautiful places in the world, near the breath-taking turquoise river Soča. A river that is always the same but changes every day. A river that can be calm and graceful, but also merciless and wild. It keeps reminding of the stock markets that go through similar periods of low and high volatility.

My name is Boštjan Berginc. I have a PhD in mechanical engineering and I’m a passionate explorer of stock markets.

I have been investing in stock markets for a good 20 years, but in 2015, I started taking a real interest in stocks. As is the case with most investors, I began investing with no real experience. At first, I started investing in mutual funds. I thought that stocks generate only profits and that in the period of ten years I will save enough money to retire and enjoy life. I had never heard of the bear trend phenomenon and the possibility of investors losing a lot of their money even if they disperse their assets. As a young investor, I was first attracted to mutual funds, which are one of the safest investments; however, this does not mean that the mutual fund you are investing in cannot lose 50, 60 or even 90 % of its value. The big financial crisis came and it seemed that the world will go to pieces. Like so many other investors, I sold my meagre savings and abandoned investing for a while. And it was in this very period that I missed out on the historically high returns that followed the 2008 financial crisis.

Then came a new period when I again ventured into the world of finance. That was in 2011. I had been acquiring knowledge through books on investment, through investments themselves and by following influential investors on Twitter. Encouraged by the newly obtained knowledge, I was determined to act more wisely in the future. I was also convinced that with better psychological preparedness investments will be a piece of cake. Of course, things didn’t go as planned. Smaller amounts of money that I invested in stocks went to more experienced investors. There is no investor in this world that mastered the art of investing through books, and almost all successful investors have experienced ups and downs.

“It’s not whether you’re right or wrong that’s important, but how much money you make when you’re right and how much you lose when you’re wrong.”

In 2015, I immersed myself in investing and studying stock markets. Since then, I have developed a number of models that help me buy and sell securities and move my assets to those funds and sectors that generate better returns in a given situation. These models help me keep a level head in moments when it seems that the entire financial sector will collapse, and warn me in advance that it would be wise to redirect my money into safer investments.

In 2021, I created the Soča Investingwebsite where I regularly post weekly comments on the situation in stock markets. The website was created exclusively for educational purposes and for educating investors. I will also give my opinion on books that I recommend reading and on persons on Twitter that are trustworthy. I will share with my readers my views on when it is a good time to be greedy and when it’s better to be more careful.

Investing can be very profitable; however, investors need to have knowledge of the hazards and risks associated with investing in securities. Moreover, they need to be able to recognise them. If you need consulting assistance with investing, consult a qualified financial advisor.
